Chlorine dioxide, a broad-spectrum and highly efficient A1-level disinfectant certified by WHO, FAO and others

 1. What is chlorine dioxide?

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is the latest generation of internationally recognized broad-spectrum, efficient, safe and environmentally friendly bactericidal disinfectant. It has the advantages of good bactericidal effect, quick effect, low residue and no resistance to heterotrophic bacteria. For killing, the concentration of chlorine dioxide required is only one-half of chlorine (Cl2), and the killing effect on E. coli is more than 5 times higher than that of Cl2. When chlorine dioxide in the air reaches 4 mg/m³, it can kill more than 99.99% of various bacteria, viruses, and molds, and can eliminate odors and odors without irritating the human body.

Therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Food Organization (FAO) classify it as an A1 highly efficient sterilizer and disinfectant.

2. Chlorine dioxide concentration standard

Chlorine dioxide gas itself has a pungent smell, and excessive inhalation will cause certain damage to the respiratory system. The chlorine dioxide usually used for disinfection refers to the finished stable chlorine dioxide preparation, which is available in three forms: powder, tablet and liquid. Chlorine dioxide solution at low concentration (common concentration is 20-200ppm) is not harmful to the human body. When the concentration is greater than or equal to 2000ppm, it has a certain corrosive effect on metals, has a strong pungent smell, and has a certain decolorization effect on fabrics. . Therefore, wear protective masks and protective clothing when operating.

Note: 1ppm=1mg/L Data source: GB 26366-2010 "Hygienic Standard for Chlorine Dioxide Disinfectant"

3. The friendliness of chlorine dioxide to the human body

Chlorine dioxide can kill bacteria and viruses without causing damage to human and animal bodies. Because bacterial cells are completely different from human cells. Bacteria, viruses, and fungi are prokaryotic organisms. Most enzyme systems are distributed near the surface of the cell membrane and are easily attacked and inactivated by chlorine dioxide. Humans and animals are eukaryotic cells. The enzyme system penetrates deep into the organelles in the cells, and the cell's protection system can provide electrons to reduce chlorine dioxide and lose its oxidation function, thereby avoiding the attack and damage of chlorine dioxide on cells.

Therefore, chlorine dioxide can have a broad-spectrum and efficient sterilization effect on microorganisms at a low concentration (0.02ppm) and is safe and harmless to the human body.

Chlorine dioxide is a highly effective disinfectant (kills Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, Mycobacterium chelonae subspecies abscessus, poliovirus, Bacillus subtilis black variant spores and natural colonies) , with broad-spectrum, high-efficiency, and quick-acting bactericidal effect. It is corrosive to metals and has a bleaching effect on fabrics.
